Service Communities
Our goal is to create and nurture connections in the community inside and outside of Cedar Ridge High School and simultaneously support the interests of students. In meeting the needs of both community members and students, we hope to cultivate a life-long interest in service. The variety of opportunities allows students to pursue service that matches their own interests.

Testimonials from NHS Students at Cedar Ridge
"The Habitat for Humanity builds have been very fun and rewarding to do. The people who run the builds are very nice and organized, so it is easy to show up and volunteer. The work is also very rewarding as you can see the work you are doing coming together."
"I enjoyed being able to help the children [at Grady Brown Elementary School] coming into Homework Helper in the mornings and seeing the children's faces when they finally understand. It was gratifying to help them and boost their self confidence because they are capable -- they just need a push."
"I love volunteering with the Girl Scouts, they are all so cheerful and positive and even though they are kind of mean and egotistical at that age, they still seem to understand the concept of right and wrong better than other children their age. My favorite meeting was the Christmas one just because I was the only one there and they were all decorating cookies and it was nice to see young people being so carefree."
"I am part of the Brookshire [retirement community] organization, which I have enjoyed because I get to help out and bring a bit of joy into the people's lives."
"I enjoy interacting with the members at the [retirement] home and have had a great time talking with them and learning about their lives."
"I read with two first graders [at Grady Brown Elementary School] every week, and one time when I left one of them ran up to me, handed me a piece of chocolate, and gave me a hug."
"I love building with others. The construction team for Habitat gets everyone involved, keeps us motivated, and it is an overall satisfying experience. "
"It feels good to know that I am helping kids [at Grady Brown Elementary School] learn needed skills that they will use forever and everyday of their life. Even though it is something as little as helping them learn to read, I know that I am helping them learn and vital skill that could forever impact how they learn and do in their later school years."
