Selection to the National Honor Society is a privilege, not a right. Students who wish to become a member of NHS provide information to be used by the local selection committee (five anonymous faculty members that comprise the CRHS Faculty Council) to support their candidacy for membership. As per the National Chapter, membership is granted only to those students selected by the Faculty Council in each school. This is not an election, nor is membership automatically conveyed simply because a student has achieved a specified level of academic performance. NHS is more than just honor roll. Cedar Ridge’s local chapter of the NHS emphasizes the components of leadership, service, and character in the selection process. By completing this application, students acknowledged that they accept the process of selection by the Faculty Council and understand that selection is final.
Accepted members are required to attend group meetings and complete mandatory service hours per semester with NHS. Recognition as a member of the National Honor Society is both a great honor and a commitment, and so students must consider membership with due care.
Applications were made accessible to invited candidates in September and have an October submission deadline. The Faculty Council will review them, and accepted students will be notified with an email letter once the committee has assessed all applications. Along with the acceptance notification, students will receive reminder information about club dues, policies, expectations, and obligations as well as an invitation to attend the official induction ceremony in early February (see the CRHS Chapter By Laws for more information).
